FCAM: The Beauty of Foster Care

FCAM: The Beauty of Foster Care

{day 18} The beauty of foster care. We talk (rightly) a lot about the hard parts of foster care. The emotional, physical, financial, spiritual, relational challenges that come from entering into a world with so many unknowns and so much pain and brokenness. But that’s not where the story ends.

Have you noticed that reviews of any kind tend to skew negative? When I get my chipotle, for example, if nothing goes wrong I’m unlikely to hop on Yelp and applaud my burrito concierge. But if you give me $0.50 of guac when I paid for $3, that’s a different story. (Just an illustration. I have a personality conflict with constructive criticism but just go with me here.) It’s safe to say that the warnings of hard things - like fostering or raising teenagers generally or single parenting - can be louder than sharing the wonderful and the healing and growth that happens amidst the hard.

Tomorrow on my stories, I’ll be sharing the good, the hopeful, the praise worthy about foster care from other foster parents. If you’re already involved in the foster care world, leave a comment or send me a DM with how fostering has been beautiful for you or others, and I’ll add you to my story!
