FCAM: I Could Never Do That

FCAM: I Could Never Do That

{day 5} “how can you love a child and then let them go? I could never do that.” Some version of 👈is a very common question/reaction to foster parents and their decision to foster. I’ve got all kinds of sassy and real answers; check out my story under “foster” for the full scoop. Here’s the punchline: I (and every other foster parent I’ve met) have decided to open myself to loss, sadness, anxiety, and grief (and of course joy, love, excitement, etc.) in order to enter into a broken place with a child. I can handle hard so that they might have a place to start healing. And it is hard, but sometimes that’s where the joy and purpose is, too.
